OUR MISSION
Surrey Hills does not accept animals from the public. Please contact your local animal rescue group if you have an animal that you need to rehome!
Surrey Hills Sanctuary is a nonprofit (501(c)3) founded in 2013. Located on a 6-acre farm in upstate New York, our mission is to advance animal welfare through compassionate care and impactful education. We provide lifelong sanctuary for senior animals and those with special medical needs—including farm, companion, and select wild animals—offering them a safe, loving environment when they have nowhere else to turn.
At the heart of our work is a commitment to educational programming that fosters empathy, respect, and responsible stewardship for animals. We offer in-person and virtual learning experiences, interactive tours, workshops, and outreach presentations designed to deepen public understanding of animal welfare issues, the unique needs and personalities of our residents, and the broader impact of human choices on animal lives and the environment. Our staff also travel to share expertise on animal care and welfare, and we provide accessible educational resources through our website.
Surrey Hills Sanctuary operates by referral from veterinarians, shelters, and wildlife rehabilitators, prioritizing animals most at risk. While adoption is rare and carefully considered, our primary goal is to provide a permanent, enriching home for animals who need us most. Through our integrated approach to care and education, we strive to inspire compassionate action and create lasting change for animals and people alike.
Visits to SHS are available by appointment only. Educational resources are available on our website. SHS staff travel all over the world lecturing about animal welfare issues. Please contact us to book one of our staff for your event.
